Mark Eliot Schwabe
Since the beginning of humankind, we have been travelers. Over the millennia, the means of conveyance have evolved. Many of the machines created are not only functional, but also beautiful. I have chosen a few of these machines (and added some of my own imagining) to reinterpret, as works of art.
Important to me are the overall grace and beauty of the object, the implied functionality of the machine and the actual functionality of the artwork (most have at least one movable part). I enjoy using complex details to create interest and complement the broader composition.
I choose a variety of metals to work with. Each has its own attributes and makes its own contribution to the completed work of art. The copper wires that I use are repurposed telecommunications and electrical waste. All metal waste that I create is reused or recycled.
